About Me
Thomas Murray is the Senior Project Industrial Designer at Stanley Black and Decker
He graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a Bachelors in Industrial Design. Directly out of school, he started working in the Black and Decker consumer power tool group. The main products he used to model and visualize in 3D were Rhino, Flamingo, and CATIA. Working closely with marketing, he began composing animations for presentations and web content. Products have stories and all have 3 dimensions. With the power of software like MOVE they now have the ability to show off other views and aspects of the product. The visualizations have proved valuable to the marketing and design team, which have begun to do more and more with animations. In the past few years, he has transitioned into full time use of CATIA for modeling and Bunkspeed MOVE to animate.
FAQ
How long have you been using Bunkspeed products?
I have been using Bunkspeed products for approximately 2 years. I originally used Bunkspeed Hypermove and have migrated to Bunkspeed MOVE 2010. I am anxious to try the new Bunkspeed MOVE 2012.
What did you use before Bunkspeed?
Before Bunkspeed I mainly used default CAD visualization packages. MOVE gives me a lot more control of the quality of the rendering and animation.
What do you most enjoy about your Bunkspeed product?
MOVE allows me to get high quality results without a large learning curve. The interface is fairly straightforward. All the tools for a designer to quickly get their visualization set up are included. It has the right level of sophistication without a cumbersome interface.
How do you light your images?
I typically use HDRIs. I have used emissive spheres in the past to get light in hard to reach places.
